Citrine
Citrine is like having a little piece of joy in crystal form. It is also highly energising and uplifting. Citrine is also a good crystal to work with or have on you if you get depressed or are prone to being more 'downbeat' in moods. For the same reason, Citrine is probably not a good crystal to have under your pillow at night, or on a bedside cabinet because it may keep you awake (the same with Clear Quartz).
If ever we feel we are in lack, or are not prosperous enough in some area, Citrine could be appropriate. This is because the energy is so upbeat and optimistic that before long abundance has to come your way! Its like having a little ray of sunshine in your pocket. A fundamental esoteric law is that of 'like attracts like'; we attract to ourselves what we already are, so if we feel we have not enough in life, or that we will never have enough, then that is all that we will encounter. However, if we feel we always have enough, then that is also what we will attract. This is how Citrine works; by reminding us of its joyful abundance, so that we then resonate with this in our energy field, we then also attract this into our lives. Of course, it also a good idea to address why someone feels there is a lack in their life, and address this too, for example are deeper issues at play - do we feel we deserve abundance? If, for example, there are self-esteem issues, then other crystals may be appropriate rather than Citrine.
Citrine is actually the same crystal as Amethyst. Amethyst when heated becomes Citrine. This can either happens naturally, as in the earth, or artificially, when it's heated by humans. Even though it may have gone through this process, this doesn't seem to affect its healing properties (unlike other similarly 'tampered' with crystals). In fact most of what you find on the market sold as Citrine has been heated in this way. Otherwise, it is called 'natural Citrine' and it usually is not as golden, and looks closer to Smoky Quartz.
Because golden Citrine and Amethyst are the same crystal they also have the same vibration, which is usually very high (higher than that of Clear Quartz). If Citrine is deeper brown in colour though it will have a slower vibration and more grounding effect in the energy field. Like Amethyst, Citrine is also a deeply spiritual crystal, however, rather than the energy been deeply stilling and peaceful (as with Amethyst), instead it is incredibly joyful and uplifting, because of course pure joy is a very high vibration as well. The golden colour of Citrine is the colour of the crown chakra and also the heart chakra at the deepest level. The deepest love and wisdom is actually golden.
There is another crystal you may sometimes see called 'Ametrine' and this is a mixture of both Amethyst and Citrine in the same crystal. There is also a crystal called 'Prasiolite', which is a greenish hued quartz, and is what happens when Amethyst is heated even more. Most on the market is unfortunately not natural and irradiated. Natural Prasiolite usually comes from a small mine in Brazil.
